Dena has walked the joys and sorrows of both pregnancy and adoption. Her life has been an example of what it means when people say "adoption is a roller coaster of emotions." After a pregnancy plagued with severe complications, she knew that there would be a slim chance of ever having another pregnancy and that they would have to grow their family again through adoption. It took her husband several years before he was ready to pursue adoption. They were quickly matched with a newborn little boy but their lives were turned upside down when after several weeks the birthmother changed her mind and the baby was returned to her. Instead of walking away from adoption with broken hearts and an empty nursery, they decided to pursue adoption again and were matched with their precious newborn son.
Dena lives in Southern California with her husband and six year old daughter (biological) and two year old son (adopted). She enjoys her part-time work as a Certified Nurse Midwife and fun family activities like stand up paddleboarding, crafts, and photography. They are preparing their home study to pursue another domestic adoption in 2013. She is excited to share her journey at the Choose Joy Event and how it is possible to find HOPE even after heartbreak.
